After many years as one of the very few women in the finance industry, Madeleine began to think about why there are fewer women and what it would take to change this. She got a new position at Pareto and was surprised at how little she knew about funds and how to choose funds herself—even with 7 years of experience in finance. After doing some research among friends and family, the conclusion was that the situation wasn't much better for others—and even worse when it came to stocks. And this didn't just apply to Madeleine's close circle; the statistics are clear: the capital gap is significant, and women are underrepresented in all areas of finance.
After extensive research, it became evident that although many people understand that investing is wiser than saving in a traditional savings account, not everyone feels confident enough to make their own investment decisions and often find it challenging to navigate existing platforms. This led to the creation of an investment platform designed to help new clients get started with investing in a more accessible way and with simplified pricing.
Christine, with her background in marketing and product development, was inspired by Madeleine’s idea, and together they embarked on the Stack journey - to build the investment app they would want to use themselves. Stack is committed to helping inexperienced individuals begin their investment journey, with a particular focus on the many women who, to date, have invested less than their male counterparts. Madeleine Bjørnestad Røed is the CEO and Co-founder of Stack. She has 8 years of experience in finance, including serving as an Equity Partner at Pareto Securities and later as the head of Pareto Asset Management's fund clients in the UK. Madeleine has also been an intrapreneur at Pareto, where she launched the Paris office, the PE team, and the UK initiative. She holds a double master's degree in finance and international management from the Norwegian School of Economics.
Christine Thorsen Kvaalen is the CMO and Co-founder of Stack. She has a background in retail, with a focus on product, branding, and marketing. She has worked for companies such as Chanel and Gucci, where she served as Product Manager for the Norwegian market. After several years on the product side, she transitioned to the ‘other side of the table’ as Category Manager at Vita, where she was responsible for the largest category—Cosmetics. Christine holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Marketing from the London School of Business and Finance.
